Based in East Dulwich, London, Richard Wood has been designing and making off the peg furniture as well as custom made pieces and fitted furniture to private commission for over twenty years.
After studying fine art at Chelsea School of Art and furniture making at the London College of Furniture, Richard has worked as a sculptor, set and prop maker for film and theatre before becoming a furniture maker.
The commissioning process begins with an initial conversation with the client often followed by a site meeting to talk through materials and design options. A workshop visit is often very useful in order for the client to see a full range of timbers and colours and to view finished pieces in the showroom.
Once a design has been arrived at and a quote accepted, a 50% deposit is then payable, the project is then booked into the workshop schedule and lead times are agreed. 3D drawings are prepared and finer details honed down to the client’s satisfaction.
To purchase an off the peg design such as one of Richard’s sideboards or cabinets, full payment is due at the point of ordering the pieces, delivery can also be arranged.
Most of my work comes via word of mouth and client recommendations, I advertise quarterly in South East London Journal and our workshop and showroom in Blackwater Court is open throughout the year and during East Dulwich Artists Open House.
